A Happy Team Makes Sense, and Money!
As a member of a team we have accepted the concept of teamwork. By following these principles we are more likely to adopt and inspire a higher level of passion and energy in ourselves and those around us.
Steps to creating a Happy Team
Recognise common goals
It’s important that each member of the team is clear on what the team wants to achieve. That is, each individual must recognise the common goals and focus much of their energy towards achieving those goals. Any individual not clear on the goals should be consulting with other members of the team or their manager.
Work together
Working together means accepting the help of others and offering your help to others. As the team is working towards a common goal, it makes sense that everyone works together to achieve those goals. This is best achieved by pointing out the positive aspects of someone’s ideas and remembering not to blatantly discard all other ideas. Some ideas just need a little work and by helping others articulate and express their ideas, it becomes possible to achieve a better outcome for all.
Celebrate each other’s differences
We all have our individual strengths and weaknesses making each of us unique. It is important to respect and protect each other’s unique skills, capabilities and talents. We do this by taking full advantage of each other’s strengths and by supporting each other’s weaknesses. Remember that individual talents and shortcomings are multiplied when forces come together.
Share tasks and responsibilities
Although each member is ultimately responsible for the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them, we must all share responsibility in the outcome of each task. This is best achieved by focusing on support rather than blame. For example, supporting one another by either gently approaching a person or making quiet corrections to their work when an error has been made achieves a far greater result for everyone.
Encourage each other
Recognise when someone falls behind and offer encouragement to help them catch up. Remember we are not in a race to the finish and the tasks have not been completed until everyone crosses that finish line.
Learn from one another
All team members should be willing to learn from one another. Some members may have mastered the processes whereas other members still require time and guidance. By bonding together and supporting each other we rise to the challenges set for us and life becomes easier.
Mistakes happen
Making a mistake doesn’t mean you failed. It simply means you’re trying. Mistakes are how we learn. Everyone needs to take ownership of their mistakes and if a mistake happens to be re-occurring, then look at what changes can be made to avoid them from re-occurring. Remember, a mistake becomes a mistake when nothing has been learnt from it.
Be innovative
Innovation is a key to the success of any business and is often what distinguishes one team from another. Innovation is not just about designing new products or services for your customers. It is also about making the most of what you have by developing current processes which in turn help to increase efficiencies and minimise waste.
Share ideas & changes
Value your team. By sharing ideas you grow together. Teams benefit from an ability to communicate effectively. Information should be shared among all the members of the teams so that nobody feels excluded. Each member is individually responsible for taking advantage of the opportunities to share process developments or changes in particular.
